I used to like watching home decorating programs on TV. Each episode invited a professional expert to help decorate a messy and disorganized home, and to give it a new look. Whether it was a small room or a whole house, the experts began first by organizing the space they were going to work on. They did this by clearing all the furniture and clutter out. Nothing was excluded. What was once a huge pile-up all of a sudden became a wide empty space.

After the room was refurbished, the experts would move the furniture back in. The most important pieces were placed first. If it was a bedroom, it might be the bed, bedside cabinets and wardrobe. In the living room it could be the sofa and coffee table, and in the dining room, the table and chairs. Following the important pieces would be the smaller objects and other embellishments. Finally, upon reveal, the room would be beautiful, orderly and useful.

The experts believe that a home should be arranged so that no matter what room, the space is both practical and beautiful. If a room is filled with furniture that is not being used, its usefulness diminishes and chances are, it won’t be used. Experts also point out that when people live in an overstuffed or cluttered environment, it can add to any other feeling of stress or turmoil that they might be going through in their lives. So they suggest that we should try to simplify the furniture and objects in our homes. The experts favor only collecting and displaying items that are of “need” or “favorites”.

Our lives are like a house. We can accumulate all sorts of experiences, thoughts and feelings inside, and sometimes what we collect ends up being chaotic. It becomes difficult for us to deal with. As the German-American painter Hans Hofmann said, “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” We need to understand what is necessary and what is not, putting the important things first and doing them first.

So what is really most important? Is it family, friendship, love, health, career, faith, dreams, shopping, money or other things? For me, I believe that when we let God be the focus and center, He will supply all our needs and make the best arrangements in all aspects of our lives.

What about you? Do you have clutter in your home and your life? Take some time to write down some of the things that you can clear up. Then begin to work your way through them one by one. Maybe you’ll discover that less is actually more.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!!
This is my article which published on Ming Pao Newspapers (Western Canada) D11 today.  I haven’t translated it into English, but in short: It encourages people to take actions and give others a “Merry Christmas” practically by doing whatever they can do, like: you can give some meaningful gifts through the charity organizations that you know and trust well (you can find some links below), or you can donate some old clothes and toys from your home, or you can volunteer your time and energy to help out.  Our little acts of kindness may bring someone a warm and happy Christmas.  But of course, we can do it anytime, not just in Christmastime. :)

Jesus Christ is the Lord and the Love of my life.

Before believing in Christ, I had looked into many different religions in search of a healing miracle. However, this search just brought fear and a feeling of helplessness to me. But there came a time when I felt led to attend meetings in a Christian church. One day while sitting in the last row of the church, I looked at the brothers and sisters worshipping hand in hand, and was suddenly moved to tears. I had never seen such joyful believers in other religions, and had never experienced such a sense of peace and love. At that moment I knew that I had finally found that real God! I dedicated my life to the Lord and became a Christian, and soon after, all my family members became Christians and were baptized.

Since becoming a Christian, God has been teaching and molding me, allowing me to experience His love and grace. He gave me understandings and brought me through many changes. Once on Prayer Mountain in Korea, a sister came and hugged me and said: “All of God’s plans have His good purposes.” I know God spoke these words to me through that sister. I keep them in mind constantly and they encourage my faith in God, convincing me that: “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) I have been through many difficult times, yet God has been with me all the way; He helps me and protects me. He has melted my heart with endless love, giving me comfort and encouragement, and moved me to obey and trust my loving and gracious God gladly and willingly. He has given me the strength and hope to live, and has led me to find the true meaning and direction of my life. All He has done for me is far more than what I have asked for or imagined.

In this world there are troubles; however, we have the everlasting love of Christ that can turn all troubles into blessings. I am fully convinced that: “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)
